The release of Battlefield Bad Company 2
The release of Battlefield Bad Company 2 has released with a fury. The latest in the Battlefield series from EA/DICE is doing even better than expected. This past weekend, due to such high volumes of players, EA had asked server providers to take down the EA public servers and to hold putting up new servers for their clients while they upgraded their systems to handle the volume. During this time, a new server version was released to help improve stability and another release was in the works and expected to deploy early this week.

The beta release had provided so much information for bugs/fixes that they were unable to incorporate everything in to the retail version, and instead, had a day 1 patch ready to go. No more having to download patches from various file hosters, the new patching system in Bad Company 2 is fully automated to download and install. This will hopefully provide the community with quicker fixes over previous Battlefield series games as they won't have to wait for a full patch version to be ready in order to push something critical out to the players. The updated method will also provide a means for new downloadable content to be automatically added to the game, such as the two new maps that were released day one.

In a surprising poll, GameInformer online magazine asked readers to choose between Bad Company 2, Modern Warfare 2, and MAG. The results, Bad Company 2 beat out MW2 by 11%. The final tally was BC2 48%, MW2 37.2% and MAG 14.8%. This says alot for the team at DICE. The weeks to come will tell how well BC2 fares against its rival MW2, but the initial results look promising for the new Battlefield game. Console players may remember a less than exciting Bad Company release (which PC users rioted about not getting), but seem to be willing to give round two of the game a new chance.
